...Distributes Food Packs and Relief Items to Over 2,000 People
As part of its unwavering commitment to uplifting vulnerable communities, Fidelity Bank Plc, a leading financial institution in Nigeria, has extended critical support to internally displaced persons (IDPs) in Benue State. Over 2,000 victims of the recent Yelwata attacks, currently sheltering at the Ultra-Modern International Market IDP Camp in Makurdi, received mattresses and essential food supplies under the Bank’s flagship Fidelity Food Bank initiative.
The outreach, conducted in collaboration with the Abbasid Charity Foundation, aligns with the Bank’s broader Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) goals. Since its inception in April 2023, the Fidelity Food Bank has distributed over 200,000 food packs across Nigeria’s six geo-political zones, addressing hunger, malnutrition, and economic hardship.
Speaking at the event, Dr. Meksley Nwagboh, Divisional Head, Brand and Communications at Fidelity Bank, reaffirmed the Bank’s mission to empower and support communities in need.
“Since its launch, the Fidelity Food Bank initiative has made a measurable impact in alleviating poverty and malnutrition across the country. We are honored to return to Benue State to continue this impactful work. We hope that today’s donation brings comfort and hope to those affected during these trying times,” he said.
Also speaking at the event, Mrs. Hawa Abbas, Executive Officer of the Abbasid Charity Foundation, underscored the importance of restoring dignity to the displaced.
“This donation goes beyond charity—it’s about compassion. By providing mattresses, we are ensuring that displaced families no longer have to sleep on bare floors. It’s our way of saying they are not forgotten,” she said.
Representing the Executive Secretary of the Benue State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA), Dr. James Iorpuu, Camp Manager Mr. Robert Nyom expressed gratitude to both organizations.
“This intervention has brought much-needed relief to the camp. We sincerely thank Fidelity Bank and the Abbasid Charity Foundation for their compassion and generosity. Your support will make a tangible difference in the lives of our people.”
This intervention in Makurdi follows previous humanitarian efforts by Fidelity Bank. Earlier this year, through the same Food Bank initiative, the Bank delivered food relief to over 1,500 residents affected by flooding in Mokwa, Niger State.
