...Girl Effect Officially Launches HPV Vaccination Campaign for Adolescent Girls in Ondo State


The administration of Governor Lucky Orimisan Aiyedatiwa has reaffirmed its commitment to safeguarding the health of every child in Ondo State, regardless of gender, by ensuring access to quality healthcare services.

Speaking at the official launch of the OYA Campaign—a comprehensive initiative for HPV vaccination and cervical cancer prevention among adolescent girls—the Special Adviser on Women Affairs, Hon. Seun Osamaye, applauded Girl Effect NGO for championing this important cause. She reiterated the government’s unwavering support for development partners working to drive meaningful change and enhance the protection and well-being of girls in the state.

The launch event took place on May 21, 2025, at the Ministry of Women Affairs and Social Development Skills Acquisition Centre Hall, Alagbaka, Akure.

Boladele Akin-Kolapo, Country Director of Girl Effect, emphasized the organization's renewed determination to reach every girl in Ondo State. She highlighted the campaign’s goals of raising awareness about HPV prevention, promoting healthy practices, and integrating nutrition education to ensure the holistic well-being of adolescent girls.

Representing the Governor, Prof. Simidele Odimayo, Special Adviser on Health, commended Girl Effect for supporting the government’s efforts to secure a healthier future for girls across the state.

Dr. Victor Adefisoye, representing the Permanent Secretary of the Ondo State Primary Health Care Agency (PHCA), acknowledged the administration's milestones in the health sector. He celebrated Ondo State’s achievement of emerging first among Southwest states in the previous national vaccination campaign.

The event was attended by several dignitaries, including: Hon. Mrs. Bosede Fasua, Wife of the Chairman, Akure South Local Government, Mr. Amadi, Representative of the World Health Organization (WHO), Chairman, Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN), Ondo State Chapter, Traditional leaders, Market women, Secondary school students, Civil society organizations, Key stakeholders and partners.

This initiative is a testament to Ondo State's commitment to the health and empowerment of girls and its vision for a healthier future for all.
