GLO FOUNDATION CELEBRATES UNSUNG HEROES, REWARDS LAWMA SWEEPERS WITH GIFTS AND SKILLS TRAINING

In a heartwarming display of appreciation, the Glo Foundation, Globacom’s corporate social responsibility arm, partnered with the Lagos State Waste Management Authority (LAWMA) to host a special celebration in honour of the state’s street sweepers.

The event, held at LAWMA’s Ijora Olopa office, gathered hundreds of sweepers from across Lagos who were treated to a day filled with games, raffle draws, and exciting prizes, all courtesy of Globacom.

Jumobi Mofe-Damijo, Head of the Glo Foundation, emphasized the importance of recognizing the sweepers’ dedication to maintaining a clean environment.

“We acknowledge the hazards you face daily and want to express our gratitude for your selfless work,” she stated.

Beyond appreciation, the Foundation also announced a robust empowerment initiative to equip sweepers with valuable skills. The program includes:

Fashion Skills: Fashion design, jewelry making, fabric embellishment, and beading.

Baking Skills: Basic cake decoration, pastry making (fried and baked), bread making.

Digital Skills: Digital marketing, social media management, e-commerce.

LAWMA’s Managing Director, Dr. Muyiwa Gbadegesin, commended Globacom for the thoughtful initiative, describing the sweepers as essential to the state’s public health and environmental safety.

The day’s celebration ended on a joyful note, with many sweepers expressing heartfelt gratitude to Glo Foundation and LAWMA for recognizing their contributions and creating a moment of joy and recognition.

As part of the festivities, sweepers participated in a lucky dip, with several walking away with valuable items such as sewing machines, inverter microwave ovens, and grinding machines.

One of the winners, Madam Dorcas Adeniji from Oshodi, danced with joy upon receiving her grinding machine. Mrs. Adewusi Bisola, a resident of Alakuko in Agbado Oke Odo LCDA, won an inverter microwave oven—prompting cheers and excitement from her friends. Ige Sadatu, who took home a sewing machine, expressed her heartfelt thanks to Globacom for the life-changing gift.
