OBA MUFUTAU GBADAMOSI LOSES MOTHER, ALHAJA HAWAWU GBADAMOSI, AT 94 — BURIAL HOLDS TODAY

The ancient town of Offa is in mourning following the death of Alhaja Hawawu Awele Gbadamosi (fondly known as Iya Ijebu), the revered mother of the Olofa of Offa, His Royal Majesty, Oba Mufutau Muhammad Gbadamosi Okikiola Esuwoye II, Ajagungbade I.

Alhaja Hawawu passed away peacefully at the age of 94, leaving behind a legacy of grace, faith, and service. Her death was confirmed in a statement released on Saturday, April 5, 2025, by the Principal Private Secretary to the Olofa, Idowu Olufemi Israel.

Born on January 3, 1931, Alhaja Hawawu was celebrated for her impactful life rooted in devotion to Allah, family values, and unwavering support for her community. She is survived by children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren, including Oba Mufutau Gbadamosi, who ascended the throne as the 24th Olofa of Offa.

The Janazah (Islamic funeral prayer) will be held today, Sunday, April 6, 2025, at 4:00 PM at the royal residence of the Olofa on Muu Road, Offa, Kwara State.

“The Palace prays that Almighty Allah forgives her shortcomings, grants her eternal rest in Al-Jannatul Firdaus, and bestows strength upon the family and the entire Offa community to bear this irreparable loss,” the official statement read.

Mourners, dignitaries, religious leaders, and traditional rulers from across the country are expected at the final rites to honour the life of the respected matriarch.
