POLITICS: AMID UNCERTAINTY, VAL OZIGBO CONSIDERS JOINING APC AFTER ALLEGED RIFT WITH PETER OBI

If feelers from the camp of Peter Obi’s Labour Party are to be taken seriously, Val Ozigbo’s Valentine period in the party may be coming to an end. Although widely predicted, the unfolding events could validate earlier speculations.

Once seen as a key ally of Obi, Ozigbo appears to be politically restless, moving from one party to another in search of relevance. Many now liken him to a rolling stone, with some suggesting that he might betray Obi and "swallow his vomit" by joining any party that can help him navigate his current financial struggles. Sources allege that Ozigbo is heavily indebted to Obi, fueling tensions between the two.

A source who craved anonymity revealed that there has been serious friction between Obi and Ozigbo. Ozigbo, said to be in a dire financial state, may not be able to repay his alleged debt to Obi. Unconfirmed reports claim that Obi has sworn not to sponsor him again. Close associates of Obi reportedly believe that defeating Governor Soludo in the upcoming election is nearly impossible, and as a strategic businessman, Obi has decided not to invest in what they describe as a "dead-on-arrival" project.

As a result, Obi is said to be scouting for a self-funded candidate to back in the next election. According to close associates, two names—Bath Nwibe and John Nwosu—are being considered as potential replacements. Obi’s body language has sent a clear message to Ozigbo: he is now seen as a political liability. Obi was even quoted as saying that Ozigbo "can’t even win his ward anymore."

Feeling sidelined and bitter, Ozigbo is now rumored to be making moves to join the All Progressives Congress (APC), hoping to reposition himself as an opponent of Obi. Sources suggest that he sees the APC as his best chance for a political appointment, which he desperately needs for financial rehabilitation. Others believe he may be seeking a party nomination as a means to raise funds for survival.

Interestingly, Obi’s inner circle is reportedly pleased with Ozigbo’s potential defection, considering it "good riddance to a disposable political waste."

If Ozigbo’s move to the APC materializes, it will mark his third political party switch in four years. An official announcement is expected soon, according to insider sources.
