COURT OF APPEAL UPHOLDS DEATH SENTENCE FOR RAHMON ADEDOYIN OVER TIMOTHY ADEGOKE’S MURDER PAPA

The Court of Appeal sitting in Akure, Ondo State, has affirmed the death sentence earlier handed down by the High Court in Osogbo, Osun State, to businessman and hotelier Rahmon Adedoyin for his involvement in the murder of Timothy Adegoke, an MBA student of Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU).

Delivering its verdict, the appellate court ruled that Adedoyin was rightly convicted and sentenced by the lower court. This decision comes 16 months after Adedoyin filed an appeal, with judgment on the matter reserved on October 29, 2024.

Timothy Adegoke, a chartered accountant based in Abuja, traveled to Ile-Ife on November 5, 2021, to take his MBA exams at OAU’s Distance Learning Centre. Tragically, he went missing two days after confirming his arrival, prompting concern among friends and family.

His lifeless body was later discovered in a shallow grave near Hilton Hotel and Resorts, where he had lodged. Investigations by the police revealed that Rahmon Adedoyin, owner of the hotel, played a central role in the gruesome act.

The case has drawn widespread attention, with the court's decision marking a significant moment in the pursuit of justice for the late Adegoke, who is survived by his wife and three children.
