ACCESS BANK WINS THISDAY’S ‘GLOBAL BANK OF THE YEAR’ AWARD, AIG-IMOUKHUEDE NAMED ‘TITAN OF THE YEAR’

Access Bank PLC, the flagship subsidiary of Access Holdings PLC, has been recognized with the prestigious THISDAY Global Bank of the Year Award for 2024, acknowledging its significant impact on the global financial sector. Additionally, Aigboje Aig-Imoukhuede, Chairman of Access Holdings, received the distinguished THISDAY Titan of the Year Award for his outstanding contributions to the banking industry.

At the THISDAY Awards 2025, Access Bank outshone competitors such as African Export-Import (AFREXIM) Bank and United Bank for Africa (UBA) to claim the highly coveted title. The grand event, held at Eko Hotels & Suites, Victoria Island, Lagos, marked the 30th anniversary of THISDAY Newspapers and the 12th anniversary of Arise News Channel. Themed “When the Going Gets Tough… The Tough Get Rewarded,” the ceremony honored resilience and excellence across various industries.

THISDAY Newspapers praised Access Bank for its strategic leadership, rapid expansion, and commitment to innovation and sustainability. The bank’s dominance in digital banking was also recognized, as it secured the 2024 Digital Jurist Award for Best Digital Bank. Furthermore, its dedication to environmental, social, and governance (ESG) principles earned it the 2024 Euromoney Award for Best Bank for ESG in Nigeria and Ghana.

During his acceptance speech, Access Bank’s Managing Director and CEO, Roosevelt Ogbonna, expressed gratitude to THISDAY Newspapers, Arise Media Group, and all stakeholders. He remarked, “This award represents 30 years of doing things differently and building on the legacy of industry giants like Aigboje Aig-Imoukhuede and Herbert Wigwe. We are deeply grateful to our board, management, customers, and stakeholders. This award is for you.”

Similarly, Aigboje Aig-Imoukhuede, along with 11 other distinguished leaders, was honored as a THISDAY Titan of the Year. Reflecting on his journey, he shared, “In 1991, Prince Obaigbena and I first met as customer and banker. He once told me that anyone privileged to manage his account would eventually become a bank managing director, and I am grateful that God fulfilled that vision. It is an incredible honor to stand among such esteemed colleagues.”
