EFCC WITNESS: EX-AVIATION MINISTER HADI SIRIKA AWARDED CONTRACTS TO SON-IN-LAW’S COMPANY

A witness for the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has testified before a Federal Capital Territory (FCT) High Court in Abuja, alleging that former Aviation Minister Hadi Sirika awarded contracts to a company linked to his son-in-law, Jalal Sule Hamma.

Sirika, along with his daughter, Fatima, and son-in-law, Hamma, is facing a six-count amended charge related to contract fraud amounting to ₦2,825,032,220.97. The prosecution claims that Sirika used his position to grant undue advantages to Al Buraq Global Investment Limited, a company reportedly controlled by his daughter and son-in-law. Among the allegations is the awarding of a ₦1,498,300,750 contract for the Apron Extension at Katsina Airport.

During cross-examination on Monday, Musa Odiniyan, a retired director from the Aviation Ministry’s procurement department, testified that Al Buraq Global Investment Limited would not have qualified for the contract under a transparent and competitive bidding process. He further stated that the company received full payment for the project, with the expectation that it would be completed before former President Muhammadu Buhari left office in 2023.

Justice Sylvanus has adjourned the case to March 10, 2025, for further cross-examination.
