PROFILE OF IMAAN SULAIMAN-IBRAHIM: TRAILBLAZING LEADER TRANSITIONS TO NEW ROLE IN SOCIAL DEVELOPMENT
Imaan Sulaiman-Ibrahim, FSI, CIPD, mSPSP, FDMSS, f.hcd, FPI, FNPA, known for breaking barriers as Nigeria's first female Minister of State for Police Affairs, has recently transitioned to the Ministry of Women Affairs and Social Development. Following President Bola Tinubu's recent cabinet reshuffle, Sulaiman-Ibrahim succeeds Uju-Ken Ohanenye, marking a new chapter in her career of impactful public service.
HER EARLY LIFE AND EDUCATIONBorn in Plateau State and raised in Abuja, Sulaiman-Ibrahim hails from Keffi in Nasarawa State. Her educational journey began at Aruwa Nursery School and Jabi Primary School, after which she earned a Bachelor’s degree in Sociology from the University of Abuja. By 21, she had completed two Master’s degrees—an MA in Management and an MBA from Webster University in the UK—demonstrating her commitment to academic and personal growth.
HER PROFESSIONAL JOURNEY
With credentials that include Fellow of the Security Institute (FSI), membership in the Chartered Institute of Personnel Development (CIPD), and Fellow of the Nigerian Psychological Association (FNPA), Sulaiman-Ibrahim’s career spans both the private and public sectors. She began as a senior sales director at Mary Kay Cosmetics in the UK before transitioning to public service, where she worked as a special adviser on Strategic Communication to former Minister of Education Chukwuemeka Nwajiuba. In 2019, she joined the Nasarawa State Economic Advisory Council, contributing to the state’s economic planning.
Her experience expanded further in 2021 when she was appointed as director-general of Nigeria's anti-trafficking agency, where she implemented strategic measures to combat human trafficking and improve victim support systems.
LEADING WITH COMPASSION AND DEDICATION
Since assuming office as Minister of Women Affairs and Social Development, Sulaiman-Ibrahim has already demonstrated her commitment to safeguarding children’s rights. One of her first assignments was a late-night visit to a facility housing 27 children detained in connection with recent #EndBadGovernance protests. Driven by her dedication to child protection, she assessed their conditions firsthand, assuring Nigerians that while justice is served, the children’s rights and welfare will be prioritized.
In her statement, she emphasized, “Under the leadership of His Excellency President Bola Ahmed Tinubu GCFR, we remain steadfast in our mission to ensure that every Nigerian child is treated with dignity, compassion, and respect.”
