Following the decision of the Church Governing council to transfer Senior Pastor of the Redeemed Christian Church of God, RCCG, City of David Parish, Region 20, Idowu Iluyomade to another parish, Throne of Grace, Ebute Metta, Lagos, where he will serve as the Pastor-in-Charge of elders, the former senior pastor of RCCG, City of David as turned in his resignation on Tuesday, June 4, 2024.
Purportedly suspended former Senior Pastor of the Redeemed Christian Church of God, RCCG, City of David Parish, Region 20, Idowu Iluyomade has resigned his appointment from the church. Reliable sources said Pastor ID, who until a recent turn of events headed the Apapa family of RCCG, turned in his resignation on Tuesday, June 4, 2024.
Pastor Iluyomade was asked by the leadership of the church to step down for three months, and afterwards move to the Throne of Grace, Ebute Metta, Lagos, which serves as headquarters of the mission. He was to take charge at the RCCG Region 1, Ebute Metta, where he will serve as the Pastor-in-Charge of elders. The former Pastor in charge of RCCG Resurrection Parish of Region 11, Pastor Charles Kpandei has since been confirmed as his replacement at the City of David Parish. This however didn’t go down well with Iluyomade, hence his decision to pull out of the RCCG family.
Iluyomade’s stepping down for three months was to face pending investigations of wrongdoings levelled against him, particularly the lavish 60th birthday of his wife and co-pastor, Siju Iluyomade on February 18, 2024. The expensive birthday party held at Eko Hotels & Suites in Lagos was crowned at bu a good number of leaders and members of the church, and a cross-section of the public, which they felt was insensitive to the mourning of a prominent member and financier of their church -Herbert Wigwe (founding CEO of Access Holdings Plc) his wife, Chizoba and their son, Chizi who died in a helicopter crash in the US on February 9.
Incidentally, Pastor Kpandei who has now taken over from Iluyomade at City of David, preached at the combined Service of Songs held on March 7, 2024, at the RCCG Resurrection Parish, Lekki Lagos for the late Wigwes.
Meanwhile, it remains unknown what Pastor Idowu and Siju Iluyomade’s next moves will be. He has remained silent since the latest developments unfolded.
