Remilekun Toyosi Meshioye, a Nigerian student who died aboard Egyptair in Cairo on her way to London, will be buried in Lagos on Friday according to burial plans announced by her family. Her remains will arrive in Lagos tomorrow (Wednesday) afternoon. Abdur-Rahman Balogun, Head of Media, Public Relations and Protocols of Nigerians in Diaspora Commission said in a statement, on Wednesday, there will be a service of songs at the Winners Chapel Ogba, Lagos on Thursday by 4 pm while her remains will be interred at Matori Cemetery, Ladipo near Oshodi Bus Terminus, Lagos at 10 am on Friday.
Olaniyi-Alabi, who is coordinating the burial said the family said they decided to repatriate Remilekun’s body for burial despite refusal by Egyptair management to accept full responsibility for what happened to its passenger. She said the family wrote a series of petitions to Egyptair but the airline has refused to even condole them up till this moment. She also noted that the airline has refused to accept the responsibility of bringing the corpse back to Nigeria. Egyptair management has also refused to respond to the letter written to them by NIDCOM to seek clarification on the matter and do the needful for the family.
Late Remilekun (40) left Nigeria for London on board Egypt Air MS 876 flight to Cairo on Monday, September 4 through the Murtala Muhammad International Airport (MMIA), Lagos, but died on board. She was reportedly going to London on a student visa and boarded Egypt Air on a connecting flight to London. She was to connect to London via Egypt Air MS777 the following day. That was not to be as the unexpected happened.
