Wale Tinubu had gathered who is who in the high society and corporate sector to celebrate the 80th birthday of his mother at the Expo Centre of Eko Hotel.
The event had in attendance many politicians, businessmen and women and top government officials that included Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, his deputy, Obafemi Hamzat, Billionaire businessmen, Aliko Dangote, Femi Otedola and former Senate President, Bukola Saraki among others.
It was gathered that after the lavish birthday party, Madam Tinubu retired into an exclusive room at Eko Signature where she changed her dress and dropped her gold jewellery, other ornaments and a large sum of money people gave her at the party. The octogenarian later left the room to attend to other family members and friends who came to honour her.
According to our sources at Eko Signature, by the time Madam Tinubu finally retired to her room she met the room emptied of her belongings. Some of her children and relatives were seen at the hotel lobby frantically moving around and querying hotel staff and receptionists to know who went into their mother’s room.
The hotel head of security was summoned to track the CCTV and movement in and out of Madam Tinubu’s room and floor.
A very agitated woman who can not be verified whether she is a daughter or relative of the celebrant was heard by our source lamenting the sordid experience at such a highbrow hotel that is supposed to be a Five Star hotel and one of the most expensive hotels in Africa.
“Mummy is sad and depressed. Her gold jewellery and money have been stolen from her room. Mummy is not happy at all. She is traumatised,” the woman was heard telling another man in a white flowing agbada dress (likely to be a son or relative of Madam Tinubu) who was hurriedly called to come and attend to the situation at the hotel lobby.
President Bola Tinubu on Saturday visited Madam Tinubu at her Kofo Abayomi Street, Victoria Island residence where the Nigerian leader felicitated her and shared the joy of her 80th birthday with her ahead of the party.
