On this special day, women are celebrated all over the world for their immense achievements irrespective of national, ethnic, linguistic, cultural, economic, or political differences.

This day is set aside to raise awareness to combat gender bias and discrimination that is prevalent in our society today. For example, Nigeria is yet to adopt 35% affirmative female action adopted in the gender and equal opportunities bill. Cultural stereotypes and gender discrimination are what is affecting us and preventing our aspiration to leadership positions, especially in Nigeria. Women remain largely underrepresented in leadership and political space. We are 49%  of the Nigerian population and yet only 7 women are in the national assembly and only 1 in Ondo State House of Assembly. Women must continue to create awareness for gender equality to be part of the sustainable development goals.

We are responsible for the choices we make, we can choose to challenge inequality and gender bias. We can choose to be supportive and help create a more inclusive she wished all women happy International Women's Day.
