Her Royal Highness, Olori Olufunmilayo Nejo-Oluyede, wife of traditional ruler of Ayede Ogbese in Akure North local government area, has commenced training of 50 teachers in pedagogy.
The training which was done in collaboration with One Million Teachers training scheme was part of her empowerment programme for residents in the community.
Olori Nejo-Oluyede said she decided to uplift lives of Nigeria children by ensuring teachers who impact them with knowledge have the requisite and modern skills.
She stated that it was to fix the dearth of skilled educationist in the country.
According to her, “You realised that education is key to the development of any society. There is dearth of well trained teachers globally. If you trained a teacher, you saved lives, you take people out of ignorance and out of a level of decadence.
“We want to fix the dearth of well trained educationist and by so doing enhance the quality of the lives of our children.
“We will do many great things to come for Ogbese residents. There is a lot of innovations coming up.”
The Alayede of Ogbese, Oba Ajibola Raphael Oluyede, said he supported the programme because it was a step towards making Nigeria graduates productive and employable.
Oba Oluyede said it was important to impact lives of the people in the community by training teachers.
Deputy Governor of the State, Lucky Aiyedatiwa, who was represented by his Deputy Chief of Staff, Prince Prince Omojuwa Olusegun, said the training was in line with the state government vision for the education sector.
He said, “It will interest you all that the State Government is leaving no stone unturned to ensure the development of the education sector in Ondo State. Apart from the infrastructural development of our schools, the State Government had also recruited more teachers into the primary schools across the State. Only recently too our amiable Governor Arakunrin Oluwarotimi Odunayo Akeredolu made a commitment to pay the 2022 WAEC fees for all final year secondary school students in Ondo State.
“Teachers are a very critical segment of our society and there is no limit to what influence or impact they have on our children. A teacher’s job includes encouraging students to become lifelong learners. The best way to do this therefore is to ensure that the teachers themselves are life-long learners, who never stop gathering knowledge. The training will allow our teachers to continue to learn, practice new skills, and instill up to date knowledge in their students.
Coordinator of the One Million Teachers scheme, Adebukola Orofin Arowosegbe said it was intended to create a transformational change in the lives of the teachers and to change a fixed mindset.
“The scheme helped to make teachers understand there are several ways to solving a problem.”
