Warri Traditional Council Of Chiefs  Has Formally And Publicly Announced  The Passing On To Eternal Glory Of His Majesty, Ogiame Ikenwoli, The Olu Of Warri To The Solemn Assembly Of The Itsekiri Nation Monday 5 April, 2021 Which Laid To Rest The Controversy Surrounding The Death Of The Monarch.

Chief Atserunleghe Officially Made The Announcement By Symbolically Breaking Three Earthen (Native) Pots Containing White Native Chalks, One After The Other On The Floor As He Announced "Alejefun-ooooh" After Each Occasion And It Was Accompanied By Twenty (20) Cannon Shots. The Twenty Cannon Shots Signifies That Twenty Olus Had Reigned Over Iwere Land So Far.

 He Also Announced Tsola Emiko As The Olu-designate, Which Was Accompanied By Wide Ovation from The Itsekiri Sons And Daughters Present At The Event.

Chief Atserunleghe Announced That The Itsekiri People Would Be In A Mourning Mood In The Next Three Lunar Months Till The Burial Rite Was Concluded.

“All Itsekiri Adults Both Male And Female Will Put Their Clothes Upside Down Throughout This Period Of Mourning.

“No Party, No Drumming Or Merriment Of Any Sort In Itsekiri Land, Until The Burial Is Over And New Olu Installed,” he said. 

37-Year-Old Prince Tsola Emiko Emerges New Olu Of Warri as Itsekiri nation unveils new Olu opf Warri designate, announces passage of Ikenwoli 

Itsekiri nation has formally announced the passage of its monarch His Royal Majesty, Ogiame Ikenwoli at Ode Itsekiri, its ancestral home in Warri South local government area, Delta State.

The Iyatsere of Warri kingdom and Acting Chairman Warri council of Chiefs and Olu Advisory council, Chief Johnson Amatserunreleghe announced the development at exactly 11.32 am before a gathering of Itsekiri prominent chiefs, Princes and sons and daughters.

He also said a period of mourning had been declared for the Itsekiri nation that will run for three months. ‘ No burials, marriages, dancing will hold across all Itsekiri communities for three months ”

‘There shall be no merrymaking of any kind anywhere in Iwere land. All Itsekiri sons and daughters must tie their wrappers upside down for the duration”.

This was followed by 20 cannon shots fired to announce the departure of the monarch. He said the 20 cannon shots signified that 20 Olus had reigned over the Iwere nation.

Unveils the new Olu designate

At exactly 11.52 am he announced the new Olu Designate Prince Utieyinoritsetsola Emiko and presented the Omoba to the Itsekiri nation.

Shouts of joy rented the air. His brief biography was later read by Prince Toju Emiko.

The new Olu designate was born April 2, 1984, to Prince Godwin Toritseju Emiko (the late Ogiame Atuwatse II) and Gladys Durorike Emiko in Warri, Delta State.

He holds a Bachelor of Arts degree, majoring in International Studies and Political science while minoring in History and Economics. He also holds a Master’s of Science degree in Management.

Meanwhile,  the purported suspended  Ologbotsere of Warri,   Chief Ayirimi Emami, has dismissed the unveiling of Prince Tsola Emiko Monday April 5, as successor to the Olu of Warri, Ogiame Ikenwoli, insisting that the revered Warri monarch has not joined his ancestors. 

Chief Emami  spoke in reaction to the announcement by  the Iyatsere of Warri, Chief Johnson  Atserunleghe at Ode – Itsekiri in Warri South kocal government area, where Chief Atserunleghe declared that Prince Tsola Emiko is the successor to Ogiame Ikenwoli, the Olu of Warri.

He declared: ” The Olu has not joined his ancestors. As far as I am concerned, whatever was done today at Ode – Itsekiri was kangaroo in search of power. The person that has the right to pronounce the transition of the Olu of Warri, whenever that happens, is the Ologbotsere, which i am till this moment by the grace of God.

“I must add that the 1979 edict has not been amended to give any other person the right to pronounce the passage of the Olu of Warri, apart from the Ologbotsere “.
