Music, dance and campus creativity took centre stage at Yaba College of Technology, Lagos, as Soundcity OnTour wrapped up its YABATECH edition with a lively showcase of emerging talent and live performances.
The three-day campus activation, which began on September 15, featured entertainment activities and competitions before the Bigi Music Competition reached its climax.
Oladapo Taiwo Opeyemi emerged winner of the competition, taking the top prize of ₦1 million after competing against other emerging artistes for the campus title.
Iheanacho Favour Emeka finished as first runner-up, while Anikene Victor Chidera took the second runner-up position.
The competition provided a platform for students to showcase different musical styles and performance abilities, with the finalists battling for the attention of the audience and judges before Opeyemi was announced as the winner.
Beyond the music contest, the Fearless Dance Challenge added another dimension to the campus experience, drawing students to the stage to display their dance skills, creativity and individual styles.
The entertainment continued with performances from Modola, Táríq, Syemca, Slimcase, Mr P, Kodee, Duuwa and Rukmani, keeping the audience engaged through the final stretch of the event.
For the organisers, however, the YABATECH activation was designed to go beyond entertainment by creating opportunities for young people to express themselves and gain visibility for their talents.
Speaking on the activation, Ekuma Eze, Head of Corporate Affairs and Sustainability at Rite Foods Limited, said the Bigi and Fearless brands were focused on creating platforms that connect young Nigerians with opportunities to express their creativity.
“Young people are not waiting for culture to happen; they are creating it every day,” Eze said.
He added that the brands aimed to meet young people where their creativity is most visible and provide platforms for them to showcase their abilities.
With the YABATECH edition now concluded, attention turns to the next stop on the Soundcity OnTour journey, which promises more music, competitions and opportunities for young talents across Nigerian campuses.
