As Lagos prepares for the 2027 governorship election, questions around housing, transportation, flooding, jobs, power, healthcare and the cost of living are increasingly featuring in political conversations across the state.
One of the policy blueprints now being presented to voters is Àtúntò Èkó 1.0, the “Reset Lagos” agenda of Prince Laja Adeoye, the governorship candidate of the Allied Peoples Movement (APM).
Adeoye formally emerged as the APM's Lagos governorship candidate earlier this year, while his campaign has positioned Àtúntò Èkó 1.0 as a blueprint for what it describes as inclusive prosperity and people-oriented governance.
The proposals cover several areas of Lagos' economy and public infrastructure. Among them are independent power projects, affordable housing, flood management, transportation, healthcare, education and job creation. The agenda also proposes stronger support for small and medium-sized businesses, the informal sector, technology and creative industries, agriculture and the blue economy.
Another major element is grassroots administration. Adeoye has proposed converting Lagos' 37 Local Council Development Areas into full-fledged local governments, which would bring the number of councils in the state to 57. He has also proposed changes to the state's political and governance structures, including the scrapping of the Governor's Advisory Council.
The campaign has also placed emphasis on greater local participation, youth-focused technology initiatives and women-led cooperative schemes. These proposals form part of Adeoye's broader argument that development should extend beyond major commercial centres to neighbourhoods and communities across Lagos.
Economic opportunity is another central theme. In a September interview, Adeoye described Àtúntò Èkó 1.0 as an intentional policy document aimed at re-engineering Lagos for inclusive prosperity, with attention to housing, power, transportation, taxation and business activity.
Adeoye's professional background in banking, business, real estate and oil and gas is also part of the profile presented by his campaign. His official biography describes his private-sector experience as a foundation for his approach to governance, while acknowledging that translating private-sector experience into public administration would depend on implementation.
That implementation question is likely to be central to public scrutiny of the blueprint.
For Lagos voters, examining Àtúntò Èkó 1.0 involves looking beyond its stated objectives to questions of financing, legal authority, timelines, institutional capacity and measurable outcomes. The same scrutiny can be applied to the programmes and records presented by other candidates and political parties contesting the 2027 election.
With the campaign now underway, Adeoye's agenda provides another set of policy proposals for Lagosians to examine as they consider the competing visions being presented for the state's next phase of development.
The debate, ultimately, is not only about the language of a campaign blueprint but about what each proposal would require in resources, legislation, administration and implementation.
