NESTLÉ NIGERIA OPENS 2026 COMMUNITY SCHOLARSHIP APPLICATIONS FOR SCIENCE STUDENTS

By Our Correspondent

Nestlé Nigeria Plc has commenced applications for the 2026/2027 Community Scholarship Programme, offering financial support to eligible secondary and tertiary students in its host communities as part of efforts to expand access to quality education and develop future science and technology professionals.

The company said the scholarship, which has supported more than 250 students since its launch in 2020, is designed to ease the financial burden of education while helping young Nigerians pursue academic excellence and career opportunities in science-related fields.

According to the company, the initiative is open to students from Agbara, Sagamu and Abaji, with successful applicants receiving support for tuition fees, textbooks and other educational expenses throughout their studies.

The scholarship targets students studying science and technical disciplines, reflecting Nestlé Nigeria's continued investment in education, youth development and community empowerment.

Data released by the company showed that the programme has recorded impressive academic outcomes, with more than 70 per cent of monitored beneficiaries either maintaining or graduating with First Class honours, underscoring its impact on academic performance.

For the tertiary education category, applicants must be current 100-level students studying science or technical courses and must have scored 200 and above in the 2026 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME).

Students applying under the secondary school category must be SS1 science students who obtained at least five credit passes in the Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE).

Nestlé advised interested candidates to complete the online application form accurately and provide all required information before the application deadline of August 28, 2026.

The company explained that applications would undergo verification by educational institutions, community unions and community leaders to ensure a transparent and credible selection process.

One of the programme's success stories is Kazeem Fatai, who recently graduated from the Federal University of Agriculture, Abeokuta (FUNAAB) with a First Class degree in Electrical and Electronics Engineering.

Reflecting on his experience, Fatai said the scholarship provided more than financial assistance.

According to him, the continued support from Nestlé throughout his academic journey motivated him to remain focused on his studies and ultimately achieve his dream of graduating with a First Class degree.

He expressed hope that his achievement would encourage other young Nigerians to remain committed to their education and maximise opportunities available to them.

Speaking on the programme, Victoria Uwadoka, Corporate Communications, Public Affairs and Sustainability Lead at Nestlé Nigeria, described education as one of the most effective ways to strengthen communities and promote sustainable development.

She said the scholarship reflects the company's belief that business success should contribute to community development by creating opportunities for young people to realise their full potential.

According to her, investing in education today helps build the skilled workforce that will contribute to Nigeria's future economic growth.

Uwadoka explained that the scholarship forms part of Nestlé for Good, the company's broader sustainability initiative focused on education, youth empowerment, skills development, nutrition awareness and community development.

She noted that the programme aligns with Nestlé Nigeria's long-standing commitment to creating shared value by supporting individuals while strengthening the communities where the company operates.

The latest scholarship opportunity comes at a time when rising education costs continue to place pressure on many Nigerian families, making corporate-backed educational support increasingly important for talented students seeking higher education.

Eligible candidates are expected to submit their applications before August 28, after which the screening and verification process will commence.
