Hydrogen Payment Services Company Limited has strengthened its corporate social responsibility efforts by mobilising its employees for a voluntary blood donation campaign aimed at improving access to life-saving blood for patients across Lagos State.
The initiative, organised in partnership with the Lagos State Blood Transfusion Service (LSBTS) and Gbagada General Hospital, was held as an extension of this year's World Blood Donor Day campaign themed, "One Drop of Humanity. Give Blood. Save Lives."
The employee-led drive attracted strong participation from members of staff who voluntarily donated blood to support emergency healthcare services, surgical procedures, maternal care, sickle cell treatment and accident victims requiring urgent blood transfusions.
According to the company, the donations will help strengthen the state's blood reserves and improve access to safe blood for patients in critical need across Lagos.
Medical professionals from the Lagos State Blood Transfusion Service and Gbagada General Hospital supervised the exercise while educating participants on the importance of regular voluntary blood donation. They also addressed common misconceptions about blood donation, encouraging more Nigerians to become consistent donors in order to maintain a safe and adequate blood supply.
Speaking during the exercise, Dr. Folashade Tawak, Senior Medical Practitioner with the Lagos State Government, commended Hydrogen for supporting efforts to improve blood availability in the state.
"Voluntary blood donation remains one of the most impactful ways individuals can contribute to saving lives. We commend Hydrogen for driving this initiative and encouraging active employee participation. Efforts like this are critical to sustaining the blood reserves needed for patients in urgent need," she said.
The Acting Chief Executive Officer of Hydrogen, Fiyinfoluwa Olorunsola, said the initiative reflects the company's commitment to creating positive social impact beyond its core business of payments infrastructure.
"At Hydrogen, our responsibility goes beyond building payment infrastructure. We are committed to making a meaningful difference in the communities we serve. This drive brings our people together around a cause that directly saves lives, and I am proud of the culture we are building, defined by purpose, compassion and service," she said.
Also speaking, the company's Head of Marketing and Communications, Obinna Ojekwe, described the campaign as an opportunity for employees to make a direct contribution to saving lives.
"While we enable the seamless movement of value every day, this initiative allowed us to give something more personal. Knowing that a simple act can save lives makes this deeply meaningful, and it reflects the kind of organisation we are proud to be part of," he said.
Hydrogen noted that the blood donation exercise forms part of its broader employee volunteering and corporate social responsibility programme for 2026, with additional community-focused initiatives scheduled throughout the year.
The company said its CSR strategy is designed to create value beyond financial transactions by encouraging employees to participate in initiatives that promote health, community development and social wellbeing.
