SGF AKUME SAYS SECURITY IMPROVING AS BOKO HARAM WEAKENS

The Secretary to the Government of the Federation, George Akume, has said Nigeria’s security situation is improving, noting that insurgent group Boko Haram has been significantly weakened.

Akume gave the assurance while receiving members of the Renewed Hope Fulbe Campaign Organisation at his office in Abuja.

He said sustained military operations and non-kinetic measures have reduced the capacity of insurgents, with attacks now described as sporadic.

“The problems we are having are temporary problems that will certainly go away. Things are already beginning to pick up,” he said.

The SGF added that the Federal Government is strengthening the country’s defence architecture through improved operational strategies and acquisition of military equipment.

Meanwhile, the visiting group pledged support for the re-election of Bola Ahmed Tinubu and Vice President Kashim Shettima in the 2027 general election.

The group’s National Coordinator, Abdullahi Ahmad Tibbo, said it would mobilise Fulani pastoralist communities nationwide to support the administration.

He cited policies such as the student loan scheme, local government autonomy and the creation of the Ministry of Livestock Development as key initiatives benefiting pastoral communities.

Akume commended the group’s commitment to national unity and urged it to intensify grassroots sensitisation, particularly encouraging citizens to obtain Permanent Voter Cards.

He also assured the delegation that its requests for recognition and support would be considered.

The group, which described itself as a grassroots mobilisation platform, said it had established structures in over 20 states to deepen civic participation.

It also reiterated its commitment to promoting peaceful coexistence, economic empowerment and political inclusion among Fulbe communities.

Observers say the development reflects ongoing efforts by the Federal Government to address security challenges while consolidating political support ahead of future elections.
