Access Holdings Plc has raised the alarm over a growing WhatsApp scam in which fraudsters are impersonating its Chairman, Aigboje Aig-Imoukhuede, to lure unsuspecting Nigerians into fraudulent investment schemes.
The company disclosed that the scammers created a WhatsApp group named “Value Focus Club 60” using a Nigerian phone number and the Chairman’s photograph to appear credible.
According to the notice, the fraudulent group falsely claims to offer investment opportunities, a move the company described as deceptive and criminal.
Access Holdings emphasised that neither the Chairman nor the institution conducts investment discussions or advisory services via WhatsApp or any informal messaging platform.
A whistleblower reportedly uncovered the scheme and alerted relevant parties, prompting swift action to curb the spread of the scam.
The company warned members of the public to exercise caution, stressing that any WhatsApp group or message claiming affiliation with its leadership is fake.
It urged Nigerians to avoid engaging with the group, refrain from sharing personal or financial information, and immediately block and report the number.
Access Holdings added that efforts are ongoing to shut down the fraudulent platform, while calling on the public to remain vigilant and spread awareness to prevent further victimisation.
