WELLNESS DIARY LIVE PROMOTES SMART NUTRITION AS FAMILIES BATTLE RISING FOOD COSTS

As rising food prices continue to reshape household spending patterns across Nigeria, a new initiative is spotlighting practical ways families—especially women—can maintain healthy diets without financial strain.

At the maiden edition of Wellness Diary Live, hosted by Brand Multimedia Communication Network, nutrition experts and participants engaged in a timely conversation on smart, budget-friendly nutrition, offering solutions tailored to current economic realities.

The virtual session, themed “Smart Nutrition for Women on a Budget,” forms part of the broader Wellness Diary initiative aimed at promoting accessible health knowledge and lifestyle choices.

Speaking during the session, nutrition expert Amaka Okwesilieze Nwaora challenged the widespread belief that healthy eating is inherently expensive. She stressed that with intentional planning and smarter food choices, families can achieve balanced nutrition without overspending.

“Healthy eating does not have to drain your pockets. The real challenge is poor planning and over-reliance on processed foods,” she said.

She highlighted the central role women play in shaping household nutrition, noting that everyday decisions around meal preparation and food selection significantly influence long-term family health outcomes.

According to her, practical strategies such as meal planning, bulk purchasing, reducing food waste, and prioritising seasonal and locally sourced foods can help households maintain both affordability and nutritional value.

A major highlight of the session was the introduction of the “Healthy Plate” model, a simple framework that encourages dividing meals into balanced portions of vegetables, whole grains, and proteins.

Participants also explored cost-effective alternatives to expensive food options, including incorporating staples such as beans, eggs, and locally grown vegetables into daily meals. The discussion further emphasized reducing sugary drinks and limiting frequent eating out as key steps toward healthier living.

Expanding the Wellness Conversation

Convener of the initiative, Aderayo Olaiya, explained that Wellness Diary Live is designed to deepen engagement beyond traditional content formats.

She noted that the initiative began as a podcast but is evolving into a multi-platform wellness movement.

“Wellness Diary started as a podcast where we share expert insights on health, women, children, and family wellness. With Wellness Diary Live, we are creating a more interactive space where participants can engage experts directly and gain practical knowledge,” she said.

Olaiya added that the initiative will culminate in a Wellness Summit later in the year, bringing together stakeholders, experts, and the public for more in-depth discussions on health and lifestyle issues.

A Shift from Awareness to Action

Beyond the conversations, the session underscored a broader shift—from awareness to actionable change—at a time when economic pressures are forcing many families to rethink their lifestyle choices.

By simplifying nutrition and making it accessible, Wellness Diary Live is positioning itself as a practical guide for healthier living in challenging times.

As Nigeria navigates rising living costs, initiatives like this reinforce a critical message: healthy living is not just about access—it is about knowledge, planning, and everyday choices.
