WEMA BANK LAUNCHES UPGRADED ALAT APP, INTRODUCES VOICE BANKING, TAP-AND-PAY, UPTIME PREDICTION


Wema Bank Plc has launched an upgraded version of its flagship digital banking platform, ALAT by Wema, unveiling advanced features designed to deliver a smarter, faster, and more intuitive banking experience for customers.

Branded “ALAT: The Evolution,” the upgrade marks a significant milestone in Wema Bank’s digital transformation journey and reinforces its position as Nigeria’s most innovative bank and the pioneer of Africa’s first fully digital bank.

The upgraded ALAT app introduces cutting-edge features including voice banking, tap-and-pay contactless transactions, and uptime prediction, all aimed at simplifying banking activities, improving accessibility, and enhancing service reliability.

One of the standout innovations is SAW (Speak-A-Wish), ALAT’s voice banking feature, which allows customers to carry out transactions and banking commands using natural voice instructions. The app also supports Tap and Pay, enabling quick and secure contactless payments, while uptime prediction provides users with greater transparency and confidence regarding service availability.

Speaking at the launch, the Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of Wema Bank, Mr. Moruf Oseni, described the upgrade as a bold step toward redefining digital banking in Africa.

“ALAT: The Evolution is more than an upgrade; it is a clear demonstration of our commitment to redefining digital banking in Africa. By listening closely to our customers and anticipating the future of banking, we have created a digital platform that is intelligent, reliable, and truly customer-centric,” Oseni said.

He explained that existing users can seamlessly migrate to the upgraded version by updating their ALAT app via the Google Play Store or Apple App Store, with all account details and transaction history remaining intact. New customers can also onboard easily by downloading the app and completing the registration process within minutes.

Also speaking on the upgrade, Mr. Olusegun Adeniyi, Chief Digital Officer at Wema Bank, said the new ALAT experience goes beyond functionality to deliver intelligent, responsive banking.

“With ALAT: The Evolution, our focus was not just on adding features but on creating a banking platform that adapts to customers’ needs. Voice banking, contactless payments, and predictive reliability are all powered by robust technology that ensures consistency, speed, and ease of use,” he stated.
