TRAGEDY: LASU ASSOCIATE LECTURER, DR. (MRS.) LAYO ABIOLA, DIES TWO DAYS AFTER DAUGHTER’S WEDDING

The academic community and family circles have been thrown into mourning following the sudden passing of Dr. (Mrs.) Layo Abiola, an Associate Lecturer at Lagos State University (LASU), who died just two days after witnessing her daughter’s wedding.

Just three days ago, Dr. Abiola had taken to her social media page to celebrate the new chapter in her daughter’s life, sharing pictures from the wedding with the heartfelt caption:

“Now that the emotions have subsided, let me celebrate my beautiful daughter. Congratulations Laular. Your new home is already blessed.”

Her post, which has since drawn waves of condolences, is now being remembered as her final public expression of joy and pride.

In a statement released by the family, the death of the respected scholar, mentor, and mother was described as a painful but peaceful transition that occurred after a brief illness.

“With deep sorrow but total submission to the will of the Almighty God, the families of Abiola and Eto announce the peaceful transition to glory of our dearly beloved Wife, Daughter, Mother, Aunty, Sister, Friend, Mentor, and Teacher, Dr. Layo Abiola,” the announcement read.

The family further explained that the announcement was deliberately delayed for 24 hours to allow her mentees and friends across the world time to process the devastating news and prevent rude shock.

Funeral arrangements, according to the family, will be communicated in due course, with plans to hold the burial before the end of the month.

The announcement was signed by her son, Abiola Ayoola Olamilekan, on behalf of the Abiola and Eto families, who earnestly requested prayers and support at this difficult time.
