Rite Foods Limited, Nigeria’s leading food and beverage company, has restated its commitment to environmental stewardship by deploying innovations that significantly minimize greenhouse gas emissions in its manufacturing operations.
The company made this known on Thursday while conducting journalists around its Energy Centre at its state-of-the-art factory in Ososa, Ogun State, as part of activities to commemorate World Ozone Day 2025.
Speaking during the tour, Olufemi Ajileye, General Manager, Operations, said Rite Foods has consistently raised the bar in sustainable manufacturing with world-class processes that conserve energy, protect the environment, and reduce carbon emissions.
“At our Ososa factory, we have deployed fully automated systems, energy-efficient technology, renewable energy, and advanced carbon-free infrastructure designed to safeguard the ozone layer,” Ajileye explained, adding that the company’s cooling plant is equipped with advanced safety systems that ensure zero ammonia leaks and zero harmful emissions.
Ekuma Eze, Head of Corporate Affairs and Sustainability, highlighted the company’s energy strategy, which integrates a unique energy mix of 92% gas, 6.5% diesel, and 1.5% solar, noting that this has positioned Rite Foods among the lowest emitters in the industry.
“Our carbon intensity is well below 800gCO₂/lpb, compared to the industry average of 1,300–2,500 gCO₂/lpb. This demonstrates our commitment to cleaner energy sources, cutting greenhouse gas emissions, and protecting the ozone layer,” Eze stated.
Beyond manufacturing, Rite Foods has embedded environmental sustainability into its Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) pillars—Education, Youth Empowerment, Environmental Stewardship, and Community Development (EYEC).
One of its flagship projects, RiteOnTheBeach, has recorded major impact along Lagos’ coastline communities, promoting plastic waste recovery, recycling, and community-led clean-ups. These initiatives have not only reduced plastic pollution but also created jobs and funded school supplies for children in underserved communities.
“These efforts underscore our dedication to circular economy practices that reduce waste, empower communities, and protect future generations,” Eze added.
Rite Foods’ continued investment in sustainable practices recently earned it the Food Company of the Year 2024 award at the Independent Media Awards.
The company’s diverse product portfolio—which includes 13 Bigi carbonated soft drink variants, Bigi Premium Drinking Water, Sosa Fruit Drink in five flavours, Nigeria’s No. 1 Fearless Energy Drink, and the Rite Spicy Beef & Bigi Beef Sausage Rolls—continues to refresh and inspire millions of Nigerians, proudly produced to world-class standards.
