In a strong demonstration of its commitment to education and youth development, Fidelity Bank Plc, a leading financial institution in Nigeria, has donated a wide range of relief and academic materials to Government Junior Secondary School, Elekahia, in Port Harcourt, Rivers State.

The donation was spearheaded by members of the Suncrest Inductee Class—newly inducted staff of the Bank—under the Fidelity Helping Hands Programme (FHHP), the bank’s flagship corporate social responsibility platform. Through this initiative, Fidelity staff identify and fund impactful community projects, with the Bank matching their contributions to bring the projects to life.

Speaking at the event, Dr. Meksley Nwagboh, Divisional Head, Brand and Communications, reiterated the Bank’s commitment to grassroots development and supporting underprivileged students.

“We deliberately chose a public school because we recognize the challenges many of these students face. Our goal is not only to support their academics but to instill hope and confidence in their future,” said Dr. Nwagboh.

He emphasized that the Bank’s school intervention projects have spanned over 15 years, positively impacting numerous schools nationwide.

“At Fidelity Bank, investing in the next generation is a strategic investment in the future of Nigeria. Through this initiative, we instill in our staff—right from their induction—the importance of giving back, developing empathy, and championing equity,” he added.

In her remarks, the school’s Principal, Dr. Ekeh Florence, expressed deep gratitude to the Bank for its thoughtful intervention:

“We are sincerely grateful to Fidelity Bank for remembering our students. The donated materials—including exercise books, biros, socks, footwear, sanitary items such as pads and shaving sticks, and even snacks—will significantly boost our students’ morale and readiness to learn,” she said.

Students at the school described the gesture as the first of its kind from any corporate organization and expressed optimism that it would spur them to greater academic achievement.
