In a significant demonstration of its commitment to community development, over 4,500 residents of Abere and Modakeke communities in Ile-Ife, Osun State, have benefited from a two-day food distribution programme organized by Fidelity Bank Plc. The initiative was executed in collaboration with the Osun State Ministry of Cooperatives and Empowerment and the Esther Adeleke Foundation.
The event saw the distribution of essential food items to underserved residents and forms part of the Fidelity Food Bank initiative, which was launched in April 2023 by the bank’s Managing Director/Chief Executive Officer, Dr. Nneka Onyeali-Ikpe. Speaking during the outreach, Dr. Onyeali-Ikpe, represented by Mrs. Morenike Olabisi, Regional Bank Head, Southwest II, emphasized the bank’s commitment to Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) and community welfare.
“This is the third distribution exercise in Osun State this year, and our aim is to contribute meaningfully to the achievement of Sustainable Development Goal 2 – Zero Hunger,” said Olabisi. “Beyond immediate relief, our CSR programmes are tailored to empower and improve the livelihoods of beneficiaries.”
As part of the initiative, Fidelity Bank also announced the donation of 500 Point of Sale (POS) machines to the Ministry of Cooperatives and Empowerment for onward distribution to residents. These machines are expected to serve as income-generating tools for families and small business owners across the state.
Senator Ademola Adeleke, Governor of Osun State, represented by the Commissioner for Cooperatives and Empowerment, Bayo Ogungbangbe, commended the bank for its impactful intervention. “This is not the first time Fidelity Bank is supporting our people. This effort demonstrates the bank’s genuine concern for the welfare of Osun residents. We call on other corporate bodies to emulate this laudable gesture,” he said.
Also speaking at the event, Erelu Ngozi Adeleke, wife of the Osun State Governor and founder of the Esther Adeleke Foundation, highlighted the partnership with Fidelity Bank as vital to supporting vulnerable citizens. “This is the second time we’re partnering with Fidelity Bank through the Food Bank initiative. Our first outing at Asubiaro Hospital, Osogbo, was so impactful that it motivated us to expand our efforts,” she noted.
“My resolve to alleviate poverty and support the governor’s people-centric agenda drives my collaboration with institutions like Fidelity Bank. I sincerely thank the bank’s management for their unwavering support.”
