Globacom has called on young girls to dream big and not be discouraged from pursuing careers in Information and Communications Technology (ICT). Speaking at the 13th Girls in ICT Day in Lagos, Adeboye Adeniji, Vertical Head, Financial Institutions and HNI at Globacom, encouraged female students from several secondary schools to see themselves as future innovators and tech leaders.
"Don't let anyone tell you tech is only for boys. You are smart, strong, and have every right to pursue your dreams," Adeniji said. She emphasised the importance of curiosity, continuous learning, and confidence, assuring the girls that Globacom—a proudly Nigerian company—is committed to supporting them in achieving their goals.
The event, organised by E-Businesslife Communications Limited, featured lectures, a roundtable discussion, a quiz, and robot-building demonstrations. Though the student-built robots weren’t flawless, their efforts highlighted a growing interest in ICT among young girls.
In her welcome address, E-Businesslife CEO, Mrs. Ufuoma Emuophedaro, stressed the need to break barriers and stereotypes that discourage girls from tech careers. She called for equal access to leadership training, scholarships, and opportunities to ensure a more inclusive ICT space.
