EVANGELIST EBUKA OBI NOT RESPONSIBLE FOR BLOGGER’S CONTINUED DETENTION

The Zion Prayer Movement Outreach has debunked media reports suggesting that the continued detention of blogger Harrison Ofoegbu, popularly known as Ijele Speaks, is connected to the ministry.

Speaking at a press conference held in Lagos on Saturday, the ministry’s Media Adviser, Dan Aibangbe, along with members of the legal team, refuted claims made by Sahara Reporters alleging that Ofoegbu had been detained for one year on the orders of Zion’s Spiritual Director, Evangelist Ebuka Obi. The team described the reports as "completely false and misleading."

They explained that a release order for Ofoegbu was signed by the court on August 15, 2024, after he had perfected his bail conditions. However, his continued detention is linked to other legal cases unrelated to Zion Ministry—specifically, a case currently ongoing at the Federal High Court in Awka, Anambra State.

Aibangbe stated that Sahara Reporters is fully aware of these facts but has deliberately chosen to misinform the public with falsehoods. He further clarified that Ofoegbu was being tried for threatening the life of Evangelist Ebuka Obi.

Mrs. Ugonna Okpara, a member of the Zion legal team, presented court documents confirming the blogger’s release order. She also revealed that Ofoegbu’s defence counsel had informed the presiding judge—who had inquired about the reason for the prolonged detention—that the blogger was being held over a separate matter at the Federal High Court in Awka, which has no connection to Evangelist Ebuka Obi or Zion Ministry.

Other members of the legal team, Kingsley Okigbo and Gerty Iloegbunam, urged journalists to carry out independent investigations at the Correctional Center to verify the true reason behind Ofoegbu’s continued detention. They also cautioned the media not to be swayed by the misleading narrative being propagated by Sahara Reporters.
