AFTER 12 DAYS IN CAPTIVITY: AFENIFERE YOUTH LEADER, PRINCE ENIOLA OJAJUNI, REGAINS FREEDOM
Prince Eniola Ojajuni, the National President of the Afenifere Youth Council, has regained his freedom after spending 12 days in the custody of kidnappers. His release was confirmed on Saturday, March 1, 2025, though no official statement has been issued regarding the circumstances of his freedom.
Ojajuni was abducted on February 17, 2025, while traveling to Abuja. His captors later demanded a ransom of N100 million for his release, sparking widespread concern among political and civil society groups. A viral video surfaced during his captivity, showing him pleading for help as the kidnappers issued threats on his life.
Following his abduction, the Afenifere group, along with several youth organizations, mounted pressure on security agencies to ensure his safe return. The Inspector-General of Police had ordered the deployment of the Intelligence Response Team to track down the kidnappers and facilitate his release.
At this time, there has been no official confirmation from security agencies, his family, or the Afenifere Youth Council regarding the details of his release, including whether a ransom was paid. However, sources close to the family and security operatives have confirmed that Ojajuni is now safe.
The incident has once again brought attention to Nigeria’s growing security challenges, particularly the rising cases of kidnapping for ransom. Many stakeholders have called on the government to intensify efforts in tackling insecurity and ensuring the protection of citizens.
Prince Ojajuni’s release has been met with relief and joy, especially among his associates and supporters, who have expressed gratitude for the collective efforts that led to his freedom. However, many continue to await an official statement on the details of his release.
