11 MONTHS AFTER KINGSHIP TUSSLE, PRINCE ABIODUN SHEKONI ASCENDS AS THE OSOLO OF ISOLO KINGDOM

It was a moment of celebration in Isolo LCDA as Prince Isa Abiodun Shekoni Faronbi was officially installed as the Osolo of Isolo Kingdom, Lagos State.

His emergence was confirmed on Friday, March 28, 2025, when he received his Staff of Office and Certificate of Nomination from the Lagos State Ministry of Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, bringing an end to the kingship tussle that followed the passing of the former traditional ruler, Oba Kabiru Alani Agbabiaka Adeola Olusi III, who died on April 10, 2024.

Oba Isa Abiodun Shekoni Faronbi, Mobadenle, Arolagbade hails from the Akinlagun Branch of the Alagbeji Ruling House.

The Alagbeji Royal Family has four branches: Akinlagun Branch, which produced the late King of Isolo, Oba Disu Faronbi (1975–1984), Arowoye Ejoga Branch, which produced Baale Alagbeji, Samuel Arowoye (1995–2010), Apena Branch, which produced Baale of Alagbeji, Chief Jelili Apena (2022–present), Alabe Branch, whose turn it is now, as the only remaining branch yet to produce a candidate for the vacant stool of the King of Isolo Kingdom.

“There are three ruling houses in the Isolo Kingdom: the Adeola Olushi Olugbesa Royal Family and the Alagbeji Royal Family and the Okota Royal Family"

The Adeola Olushi Olugbesa Royal Family had previously produced the late Oba Sumonu Agedegudu, and following his demise, the throne reverted to the Alagbeji Royal Family—leading to the emergence of the newly installed monarch.

A statement from the Lagos State Ministry of Local Government, Chieftaincy Affairs, and Rural Development confirmed his appointment: “Today, upon the approval of Mr. Governor, Babajide Olusola Sanwo-Olu, the Honourable Commissioner for Local Government, Chieftaincy Affairs, and Rural Development, Mr. Bolaji Kayode Robert, presented the Staff of Office and Instrument of Appointment to Prince Isa Abiodun Olakunle Shekoni, now officially recognized as His Royal Majesty, Alaiyeluwa Oba Isa Abiodun Olakunle Shekoni, the Osolo of Isolo Kingdom in Isolo LCDA.”

The presentation ceremony was attended by notable dignitaries, including the Chairman of Isolo LCDA, Hon. Olasanju Adebayo, and the Honourable Member representing Oshodi-Isolo Constituency II, Hon. Ladi Ajomale, among others.

With his ascension to the throne, Oba Shekoni is expected to uphold the cultural heritage of the Isolo Kingdom, foster unity, and drive development within the community.
