Federal University, Oye-Ekiti (FUOYE) has recognized the outstanding contributions of Otunba Sola Adewumi, a distinguished leader in Nigeria’s maritime and energy sectors, at its 9th Convocation Meritorious & Awards Ceremony. The prestigious event took place on Thursday, February 20, 2025, at the university’s New 1000-Seater Hall in Ekiti State.
Otunba Sola Adewumi is the Chairman and CEO of Equitorial Energy Company Limited, a firm specializing in shipping and bunker sales. He is also the President of the Nigerian Shipowners Association (NISA) and the Bunker Traders Association of Nigeria, where he actively advocates for greater indigenous participation in the maritime industry. With a strong commitment to industry development, he has worked to address key challenges such as the misrepresentation of bunkering and the need for policy reforms, including the removal of waiver clauses in the Cabotage Act. A respected traditional titleholder in Ikere-Ekiti, Otunba Adewumi is widely recognized for his leadership, strategic vision, and dedication to enhancing Nigeria’s shipping sector.
Otunba Adewumi was accompanied to the event by his beautiful wife, Chief (Mrs.) Oluwakemi Adewumi, Erelu of Ayede Ekiti, who stood proudly by his side as he received the prestigious honor. The Vice-Chancellor of FUOYE, Professor Abayomi Sunday Fasina, personally presented the award to Otunba Adewumi as part of the university’s 9th Convocation activities, which commenced on Monday, February 17, 2025.
The event was graced by top dignitaries, university officials, students, and industry stakeholders, all of whom commended FUOYE’s initiative in celebrating individuals who have made significant impacts in their respective fields.
