ENTERTAINMENT: GLO-SPONSORED CNN AFRICAN VOICES FEATURES PATORANKING AND DERRICK COBINNAH

This week’s edition of African Voices, the 30-minute magazine program on CNN International sponsored by Globacom, shines a spotlight on two remarkable Africans: Nigerian Afrobeats and reggae-dancehall star Patoranking and Ghanaian humanitarian Derrick Cobinnah.

Patoranking: From The Streets To Global Fame

Born Patrick Nnaemeka Okorie on May 27, 1990, in Lagos, Patoranking grew up in the Ebute Metta neighborhood, where he shared a single-room home with his parents and five siblings. His journey from the slums of Lagos to international stardom is an inspiring story of resilience, talent, and determination.

The award-winning singer and songwriter started out as a street performer before breaking into mainstream music. Over the years, he has released several hit albums, including: God Over Everything (2016), Wilmer (2019), Three (2020) and World Best (2023).

Patoranking’s music has earned him numerous accolades, including the Headies, Vodafone Ghana Music Awards, and MTV Africa Music Awards. His impact goes beyond music; in 2014, he was appointed as a Regional Goodwill Ambassador for Africa by the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) in recognition of his efforts to empower African youth and promote innovation.

Derrick Cobinnah: Supporting Ghana’s War Veterans

The second guest on the show, Derrick Cobinnah, is a humanitarian based in Accra, Ghana. He is currently the President of the Ghana-Jamaica Chamber of Commerce (GHANJACC) and is widely known for his work in rehabilitating war veterans.

Through his non-governmental organization, Forces Help Africa, Cobinnah has provided crucial support to sick, injured, displaced, and destitute veterans in Ghana. His efforts have earned him widespread recognition for championing the welfare of ex-servicemen and women who have given their lives to national service.

The current edition of African Voices began airing on DSTV Channel 401 on Saturday, with repeat broadcasts scheduled for Sunday at 7 p.m. and Monday at 4 a.m.

Stay tuned for an inspiring episode showcasing the power of music and humanitarian service in Africa!
