LIFESTYLE: INI EDO OPENS UP ON FERTILITY STRUGGLES, SIX MISCARRIAGES, AND CHOOSING SURROGACY TO EMBRACE MOTHERHOOD

Nollywood actress Ini Edo has shared her emotional journey to motherhood, revealing that she endured six miscarriages before deciding to have her daughter through surrogacy. The 42-year-old actress opened up about her fertility struggles in the latest season of Young, Famous & African on Netflix, shedding light on the challenges she faced and the decisions that led to her becoming a mother.

“I never thought I would have fertility issues, but I’ve had problems carrying pregnancies long-term,” Ini candidly shared.

As she approached her 40s, time became a significant factor in her decision-making. “When it wasn’t happening as I hoped and I wasn’t getting younger, I decided to explore my options. Surrogacy became the best path for me, and I’m very happy with my decision,” she explained.

Ini also addressed speculation surrounding her daughter’s paternity. She clarified that while the child’s father is alive, he is not involved in raising her. “I’m raising her alone,” she said. “There was no man in my life at the time, but I wanted to have a child. There are different ways to go about that.”

The actress emphasized that her decision to pursue surrogacy was not taken lightly. “It’s not something people just wake up and decide to do. For me, it wasn’t a fancy way out—I’ve always wanted to be a mother,” she said.

Reflecting on her earlier expectations, Ini disclosed, “I got married at the age of 26 because I thought that by 31, I would have been done with childbearing and could focus on my career. But life didn’t pan out that way. I tried. I have had over six miscarriages.”

Her heartfelt revelations highlight her resilience and determination to fulfill her dream of becoming a mother despite the obstacles.
