Fidelity Bank Plc, a leading financial institution, has demonstrated its commitment to community welfare by donating maternity kits to 30 pregnant women at Mushin Primary Health Centre (PHC), Lagos.
The initiative, driven by the Great Minds Inductees Class, was executed under the Fidelity Helping Hands Program (FHHP), the bank’s Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) platform that fosters staff involvement in community development. Through FHHP, staff identify impactful community projects, raise funds, and the bank matches the contributions to implement the selected initiatives.
PROMOTING SAFE MATERNAL HEALTH
Speaking at the event, Dr. Meksley Nwagboh, Divisional Head, Brand and Communications Division at Fidelity Bank, explained the rationale behind the project.
“The project was borne out of the need to support pregnant women by providing them with essential materials for a safe delivery,” he said.
Dr. Nwagboh further highlighted the alarming maternal mortality statistics in Nigeria, stating, “A 2023 United Nations report indicates that nearly 28.5% of global maternal deaths occur in Nigeria. This is an alarming statistic, and as a bank committed to improving the welfare of our host communities, we deemed it necessary to address this challenge by supporting pregnant women in the Mushin community.”
COMMUNITY LEADERS COMMEND FIDELITY BANK
The Medical and Health Officer for Mushin Local Government Area (LGA), Dr. Kayode Odufuwa, applauded the initiative.
“This intervention by Fidelity Bank will help reduce maternal mortality and encourage more women from less-privileged backgrounds to register for antenatal care,” he said.
Dr. Odufuwa, on behalf of Mushin LGA Chairman, Mr. Emmanuel Bamgboye, expressed gratitude to the bank, stating, “We appeal for continued collaboration with Fidelity Bank to further strengthen healthcare services in the area.”
Similarly, Mrs. Bolanle Odunlami, Deputy Director of Nursing Services in Mushin LGA, lauded the bank’s generosity.
“The donation is a much-needed relief for many mothers who are unable to afford essential delivery kits. Fidelity Bank has truly shown empathy by coming to the aid of our patients, and for that, we are extremely grateful,” she noted.
BENEFICIARIES SHARE THEIR GRATITUDE
Mrs. Mary Olusanya, one of the beneficiaries, expressed her appreciation, saying, “I appreciate Fidelity Bank for helping us. Many pregnant women cannot afford these kits, but this donation ensures that we can have safe deliveries and better healthcare.”
