AMID CONTROVERSY LAGOS STATE GOVERNMENT PRESENTS STAFF OF OFFICE TO NEW OBA OLUMEGBON OF AJAH AND OKUN-AJAH

The Lagos State Government has officially presented the Staff of Office and Instrument of Appointment to the new Oba Olumegbon of Ajah and Okun-Ajah, His Royal Majesty, Oba Abdulateef Kolawole Lawal-Olumegbon. The ceremony, held in Lagos, was attended by prominent monarchs and key dignitaries.

The Commissioner for Local Government, Chieftaincy Affairs, and Rural Development, Mr. Bolaji Kayode Robert, made the presentation on behalf of Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu, solidifying Oba Lawal-Olumegbon’s ascension to the throne.

The installation comes amid recent protests by some Ajah residents and indigenes, who opposed what they called an "imposition" of the Olumegbon title. They had argued that the Baale of Ajah was the rightful traditional head to be elevated to the position of Oba.

With today's presentation, the state government has made its stance clear, although it remains to be seen whether this resolves the community's lingering opposition.
