Governor Charles Soludo of Anambra State has clarified that his administration's actions are not targeted at all native doctors but specifically at those complicit in criminal activities.
The governor made this assertion following findings by individuals and organizations in the Southeast, which revealed that certain native doctors were aiding kidnappers and armed robbers by preparing charms and engaging in heinous practices, including human sacrifices, to facilitate illicit activities.
In a statement issued by the Commissioner for Information, Law Mefor, Governor Soludo emphasized his commitment to curbing diabolical rituals and harmful practices, such as Ego Mbute, Oke-Ite, Yahoo Plus, and other forms of idolatry that have begun to infiltrate the socio-cultural fabric of the Igbo community.
“These harmful activities have no place in genuine traditional medicine or practices aligned with the values of God and humanity,” the governor stated, adding that such acts threaten the foundational principles of integrity, morality, and the fear of God that define Igbo culture.
Governor Soludo further stressed the importance of exposing those who promote criminality and alien practices, warning that failure to address these issues could lead to a soulless society in Anambra State.
However, he acknowledged that not all native doctors are involved in wrongdoing. Those practicing authentic traditional medicine that aligns with cultural and ethical standards have no reason to fear the government’s actions.
Reiterating his administration’s respect for Anambra’s rich cultural heritage, Soludo urged the public to uphold values such as hard work, respect for human life, morality, and the fear of God, which the Igbo people are renowned for.
The governor’s stance aims to restore sanity in the state while safeguarding its cultural integrity and fostering a society rooted in ethical practices and mutual respect.
