Mr. Gbogi Emmanuel, an All Progressives Congress (APC) chieftain in Ondo State politics, has turned down the Special Assistant position offered him by Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa, ONDO State Governor, he expressed his decision in a letter dated September 7, 2024, which he personally signed and sent to the governor.
In his letter, Emmanuel explained that the appointment came as a surprise since he had not been consulted about his willingness or availability before the announcement. He also mentioned that the role did not align with his capabilities, leading him to decline the offer.
The governor had announced Emmanuel as one of 316 new Special Assistants alongside 28 new Senior Special Assistants. This announcement was made public by the governor’s Chief Press Secretary, Prince Ebenezer Adeniyan. However, Emmanuel had already returned to his business commitments in the United States after an earlier appointment as Chairman of the Transition Committee for Akoko South South LCDA was rescinded.
Emmanuel’s letter detailed his disappointment with the way his initial appointment was handled and his belief that his contributions were no longer valued. He noted that the new role seemed to be a political maneuver rather than a genuine appointment, further contributing to his decision.
In conclusion, Emmanuel conveyed his gratitude for the offer but expressed that accepting the role may be perceived as a demotion and he will not in good conscience accept a role that may be seen as beneath his capabilities. He wished the governor and the APC well in their future endeavors.
