HOW OYO REP MEMBER, JAGABAN SLUMPED AND DIED IN ABUJA DURING PLENARY
Hon. Musiliu Olaide Adewale Akinremi, a member of the House of Representatives, from Oyo state, popularly called Jagaban passed away yesterday, Wednesday, July 10, 2024, slumped and fell while the house plenary session was ongoing, according to fresh reports.
One of his aides, Mr L. A Fatoyinbo who spoke to BBC News in Ibadan today said the lawmaker was full of life and showed no sign of sickness. He was active all morning before joining his colleagues to begin the business of the day. All of a sudden, he slumped and fell from his seat. Some of his colleagues and other staff of the assembly rushed to rescue him and he was suddenly rushed to the hospital inside the National Assembly complex. After efforts to resuscitate him failed, he was later taken to a private hospital in Abuja where he was declared dead. The House suspended proceedings and adjourned immediately after the incident in honour of the late me. The Senate also adjourned for the day in honour of Akinremi.
The late lawmaker had already made plans to fly into Ibadan later yesterday before death suddenly struck. According to the aide, he was billed to attend the commissioning of a new school project he just completed in his constituency yesterday. He was also billed to be fully involved in the installation ceremonies of the new Olubadan of Ibadanland tomorrow. Hon. Akinremi had personally contributed funds to the ceremony.
Akinremi, born on October 1, 1972, was a second-term representative of Ibadan North Federal Constituency on the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC).
He is survived by his wife, Adanma Akinremi and five children. He is being buried today inside his home at Temidire Estate, Ologuneru in Ibadan this afternoon, according to Islamic rites.
