ONDO RESIDENTS COMMEND AMOTEKUN FOR SWIFT RESPONSE, RECOVERY OF VEHICLES, PHONES, OTHER ITEMS

Residents of Ilekun, Oda town, in Akure North Local Government area of Ondo State have thanked the personnel of the Ondo State Security Network Agency codenamed Amotekun Corps for their all-time quick response to distress calls which have led to the recovery of their stolen car, laptops, phones and other valuables.


Some of the residents and community leaders gave commendations during the distribution of the recovered items to residents of the community.

They heaped praises on the personnel of the Corps for their swift responses to distress calls which further saved them from being completely defeated by the criminal elements. 

The owner of the retrieved vehicle, Alade Olanrewaju, commended the Amotekun Corps for their swift response to his distress call which was instrumental in retrieving his vehicle.

Narrating his ordeal, he said the hoodlums came into his house and demanded money, and that since he didn't have any to give them, they asked for his car key which he handed over to them. 

"It was while we were rescuing some of our injured neighbours to the hospital that we reported the matter to men of the Amotekun Corps who responded fastly and were able to retrieve my vehicle and other stolen items. 

Another resident, Afeez Kolawole who is a Youth Corps Member, while sharing his experience, said they were attacked by robbers who stabbed him with a piece of broken bottle after struggling with them. "Eventually, they succeeded in carting away my mobile phones and that of others living with me. 

"A few minutes later, the Amotekun Corps appeared, burst their operations and recovered our stolen items. 

"I want to thank the Corps for their response and intervention. I had never seen them in action before, until today and I marvelled at their style of operation, especially their timely response to distress calls. 

Also, a resident, Hon Akin Akosile, representing Oda Ward 6 as a Supervisory Councilor in Akure South local government. "I am one of the Executive members of the Landlord Association. 

"We were woken up around 1:30 am by gunshots, everybody was thrown into a state of confusion and unfortunately, they left with some items and even my phone was taken away. 

"We laud Amotekun operatives for their swift response which had led to the recovery of the vehicle and other items they stole from us. 

"We are also appealing for more of their presence because we need them more than before. There is nothing wrong, if they could have a post at Ilekun axis. God bless you, Sir, we sincerely commend your work", he stated.

Reacting, the Commander of the Ondo State Security Network Agency codenamed Amotekun Corps, Akogun Adetunji Adeleye appealed to residents of the state, to always endeavour to help the Corps with timely information which would further assist them to nip crimes in the bud.

Ondo Corps Commander gave the charge while parading seven suspected criminals at the Command's Headquarters in Akure.

"Our parade today will be a little different from what we used to have as this will be more of sensitization.

"We have seven suspected criminals here today and we also want to inform the public, that "You should assist us to assist you in the area of crime bursting. 

He stated, that out of the seven suspects being paraded, "we have three that are arrested in connection with human particle cases and the remaining four are nabbed for housebreaking. 

The Security Expert also mentioned the level of preparedness of the Corps towards the forthcoming festivities. 

"Again, we're aware, that very soon, we will have the Easter and Ramadan celebrations and we are aware that people will travel a lot, especially during the holidays.

To this effect, we will be deploying 700 officers across the 18 local government areas of the state and intensify our patrol in the metropolis to guarantee the safety of lives and properties in Ondo State.

"To commuters, we advise you to shun travelling late in the night and too early in the morning.

"However, we will commence our 24-hour patrol from the end of this week to be sure, that throughout the Easter festivities, there will be no ugly incidents.

Speaking further on the paraded suspects and the recovered items, he said;" This vehicle you are seeing here was attacked by armed bandits and residents of a particular community around Akure New Town, raised the alarm and within few minutes, we were able to move in and rescued the victims.

"The armed robbers who had already taken over this Toyota Camry escaped and we were able to retrieve the vehicle, while efforts were on to arrest the fleeing robbers.

"Before now, you will discover that lots of electronic gadgets; computers among others have been stolen from residents, so we decided on a manhunt around the communities.

"And about between 2:00 am and 5:00 am, we were able to retrieve a lot of the properties that were stolen.

"This is to reconfirm the fact that response to distress calls is been compressed to the barest minimum.

"We can retrieve all the items stolen from their victims from various houses and we have handed them over to the rightful owners in the presence of the community leaders that are present here. 

"We want to encourage the good people of Ondo State to always give us timely information to work with. We also want to let you know, that, today, we have three Amotekun Personnel that have gone through the normal process of Court Martial and have been dismissed for professional misconduct. 

"They have ceased to be members of the Amotekun Corps and we would ensure, that adequate punishment, even after dismissal, would be meted out to them", he assured.

Akogun Adeleye commended the Governor Lucky Orimisan Aiyedatiwa-led administration who collaborated with the Federal Government to ensure that bad portions between Owo and Ifon highway which used to serve as criminals' hideous to carry out kidnap activities, have been repaired. 

"On the part of the security aspect, we have commenced 24-hour, 7-day patrol of Owo to Ifon and in the last three weeks, there has been no incident of kidnapping.

"We intend to keep this up throughout the Easter period and end of Ramadan fasting to such an extent that people can commute peacefully. 

The State Amotekun Commander, however, reiterated that state policing is the immediate solution to the perennial security challenges in Nigeria.
