BUHARI APPOINTS OLUWATOYIN MADEIN AS FIRST FEMALE ACCOUNTANT GENERAL OF THE FEDERATION


President Muhammadu Buhari has approved the appointment of Oluwatoyin Sakirat Madein as the substantive Accountant General of the Federation, AGF. She is the first Female to be appointed to the position. 

Her appointment followed the successful conduct of the selection process to fill the existing vacancy. She alongside 19 other candidates was shortlisted for the position back in January.

Dr. Madein is stepping in to take over from Mr. Sylva Okolieboh, who had been in an acting capacity as the AGF following the suspension of Idris Ahmed from office over allegations of corruption and embezzlement of public funds.

Ahmed is currently being prosecuted by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) on various corruption charges.

This was contained in a statement, signed by the Director, Communications, Office of the Head of Civil Service of the Federation , Mohammed Abdullahi Ahmed on behalf of the Head of the Civil Service of the Federation, Dr. Folasade Yemi-Esan.

According to a statement, the appointment takes effect from Thursday, May 18, 2023.

Oluwatoyin Madein was born on 7th of March, 1965 in Iperu Remo Ikenne LGA Ogun State, and until her appointment, she was the Director of Finance and Accounts in the Office of the Head of the Civil Service of the Federation, OHCSF.

She holds a Ph.D. in Management Finance from Walden University, Minnesota, USA and would become the first female to occupy that office in Nigeria.
