Until his death, he was lawmaker representing Ibadan South-East II in the Oyo state house of assembly. And the Chairman of, the House Committee on Local Government and Chieftaincy Matters. He died at the age of 46.
Popoola, who had secured a ticket to seek another term on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP). He was already making plans to start his reelection campaign for next March's election.
Popoola died in the early hours of Wednesday at the University College Hospital (UCH), Ibadan. Reports said he died after battling liver and kidney-related ailments for some days.
For several days, the state lawmakers, and friends had severally paid visits to the hospital to check on their Popoola until his death.
Meanwhile, the State Governor, Seyi Makinde has expressed shock over the death of the lawmaker. He described the lawmaker’s death as sad, painful and a huge loss to the state.
He prayed to God to grant repose to the soul of the late Assembly member, whom he said contributed his best efforts in the House towards the overall development of Oyo State.
The lawmaker was elected in 2019 to represent the area on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP). And he won his reelection bid to represent his constitutes
