Ekiti 2022: My Ambition For Governorship Seat Is Borne Out Of My Heart To Serve Ekiti People -Eleka


A former Deputy Governor of Ekiti State, Professor Olusola Eleka has assured residents of Ekiti State of his readiness to serve the people wholeheartedly if elected the Governor of the State in the June 18 Governorship poll in the State.

Prof. Eleka who was speaking with newsmen in his country home, Ikere-Ekiti noted that he has served in his capacity as the Deputy Governor of the State, adding that he prays for the opportunity to serve in the higher level, saying the higher level he craved for is the position of the Governor.

He added that such position would enable him to do more and bring rapid development to all sectors of the economy of the State.

Eleka said he joined the race because of the assurance that internal democracy would be allowed to prevail.

The erudite Scholar who was the PDP Governorship candidate during the 2018 election in the state, boasted that he remains the best man for the job in the state, with a pledge to reposition the state when elected Governor.

“My coming out to aspire for the position of the Governor of Ekiti state on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party was Borne Out Of the Heart To Serve Ekiti People, I have been tested and I have been proved by the grace of God, as a sitting Deputy Governor, I was privileged, I was given the opportunity to oversea the education sector, and today history has been made that Ekiti state performed well under my supervision in both technical and secondary school education within the four years of my sojourn as the Deputy Governor of Ekiti state”.


The former Deputy Governor expressed the belief that he can still do more when opportunity permits to rule the state.


According to him, Ekiti state can be transformed from the tag of civil service State into economically and industrially viable State, adding that the State has all the potentials to thrive in that regard stressing that poor leadership has been responsible and be the clog in the wheels of progress of the State.


He said the time to wake up has come, adding that he’s well prepared and well equipped to take the bull by the horns and as well to ensure that the mantle of leadership of the State is taken from those leaders whom he said appeared to have been sleeping when it comes to the development of the State.

The University Don while speaking on his expectations ahead of the Governorship Primary election of his party billed to hold on 26 of January this year described himself as a foremost aspirant among other contestants, consider his antecedent, experience and acceptability within the party, adding that he has a good number of delegates and supporters to coast home to victory .

 

He decried the imposition of Candidate, saying the party must demonstrate it’s slogan, which he said is “power to the people” during the Governorship primary, saying when power is giving to the people, they would do what’s right.

 

He described the agitation for Ekiti South Senatorial District to occupy the number one seat in the state as a viable and strong one, while emphasising that electorates from Southern Senatorial district are ready for any candidate picked as flagbearer of the party.

 

“Don’t forget also that I’m from Ekiti south Senatorial district and that is a plus, across party lines there’s a strong agitations for the zone to be giving the privilege of producing the next Governor of the Ekiti state”

 

“Some people are saying the Southern Senatorial district have been contesting, they have not been deprived. Yea, I agreed. I’m from the southern Senatorial district, I contested in 2018, but we all knew what happened, the power that be deprived us of that victory, however we are still saying that, in Ekiti south, for fairness and equity, it is important that Ekiti south Senatorial district should be giving that opportunity and you can see the agitation across the party lines, whether in PDP, APC or any other party”.

 

While asked on the factor responsible for his former principal Ayo Fayose pitching his tent with another candidate ahead of the January 26 Primary election of the party, the Former Deputy Governor said Fayose as an Individual has every right to support any candidate of his choice, while noting that he too has constitutional right to aspire for the Governorship seat.

 

Prof. Eleka further said that the relationship between him and his former boss is cordial, adding that Fayose remained his leader and mentor.


He described the crisis rocking the party as an internal affairs, noting that there are bound to be internal disagreement, saying there’s also internal mechanism to resolve the crisis.

 

He said various stakeholders have been held championed by the national leaders of the party to resolve the internal crisis, adding that all aspirants will come together after the primary election of the party to support whoever wins the ticket.
