BRIEF ABOUT LATE HON (PHARM.) TITUS AYODELE LASEKAN
Hon (Pharm.) Titus Ayodele Lasekan was born on the 3rd day of September, 1943, to an enviable parentage in Ipele, Owo Local Government Area of Ondo State. He grew up in Ipele, where he had his Elementary education at St Stephen’s Primary School, Ipele, between 1951 and 1956. He proceeded to the prestigious Imade College Owo (ICO) in 1958 for his secondary education and passed out in flying colours in 1962. Taking a cue from his father, his craving for success and excellence in education saw him attending Ibadan Grammar School, Ibadan, between 1963 and 1965. He passed out with a record grade in the Higher School Certificate examination.
He had a brief stint as a teacher at Gboluji Grammar School, Ile – Oluji from 1966 to 1967, before gaining admission to the University of Ife, Ile–Ife, where he studied Pharmacy. A true chip of old block indeed! Apart from being the Editor-in-Chief of the Faculty’s monthly magazine, he as a student was the cartoon legend to the University’s magazine at the time. He graduated in 1971 as one of the best graduating students of that year. After his graduation from the University, he joined the General Hospital Akure, as an Intern from 1971 to 1972. He resigned from there to establish the famous and ubiquitous Oyedele Pharmacy Limited, with headquarters in Owo, and branches spread across the length and breadth of the then Ondo State, comprising the current Ondo and Ekiti states.
Basking under the euphoria of a thriving professional calling, he veered into other business ventures, and this led to the establishment of GALAXY Nite club & Restaurant, an innovative but classic rendezvous for lovers of fun, relaxation and pleasure.
With a Torch of Midas, his adventure into politics was an instant hit! He was elected Chairman, Owo Local Government Area between 1999 and 2002, under the aegis of Alliance for Democracy. Despite enormous challenges of that era, his administration made remarkable impact in both infrastructural and human development as a whole.
He loved and served God, and this was demonstrated by his generous philanthropy all through his lifetime. He was a former member of the Students’ Christian Movement in Imade College, Owo. Until his death, daddy was a committed member of the St David’s Cathedral Church, Ijomu, Akure, and also St. Stephen’s Anglican Church, Ipele, where he served as the Head of Ushers. A proud holder of Fellowship award of Pharmaceutical Society of Nigeria and the first Pharmacist to receive such an award in Ondo State.
