POLICE SENSITISE 400 STUDENTS
The Lagos State Police Command has sensitised about 400 students of the Police Children School, Ikeja, on responsible decision-making and the dangers of cultism, drug abuse and other social vices.
The sensitisation programme, organised through the Police Campaign Against Cultism and Other Vices (POCACOV), was held on Wednesday, September 30, 2026, with the theme, “Right Choices, Great Future.”
The programme focused on encouraging students to develop positive values, resist negative peer pressure and make choices that can support their education and future.
Speaking at the event, a POCACOV member, Henry Bassey, urged the students to remain law-abiding and maintain open communication with their parents, teachers and other trusted adults, particularly when faced with threats or troubling experiences.
A mental health expert from the Lagos State University Teaching Hospital (LASUTH), Dr Hezekiah Akinlade, also addressed the students on the dangers associated with drug and substance abuse.
Akinlade encouraged the students to resist negative peer influence and make healthy choices.
The POCACOV Coordinator in Lagos State, SP Olivia A. Ugochukwu, who represented the Commissioner of Police, CP Tijani Fatai, urged the students to remain focused on their education and choose their friends carefully.
She also encouraged them to respect their parents and teachers, obey the law and avoid behaviours that could jeopardise their future.
The Command said the programme formed part of its preventive approach to tackling cultism, drug abuse and other social vices through early engagement and positive value formation among young people.
The initiative also highlights the role of schools and families in helping young people recognise risky situations, seek support from trusted adults and make informed decisions.
The programme was part of POCACOV’s ongoing efforts to engage young people and promote responsible behaviour as a means of preventing involvement in criminal and harmful activities.
