FIDELITY BANK, FOREMOST RADIOLOGY PROMOTE EARLY BREAST CANCER DETECTION

By Aderonke Oluwadare

As Nigeria joins the global campaign for Breast Cancer Awareness Month, Fidelity Bank Plc and Foremost Radiology are encouraging women to recognise possible warning signs of breast cancer, seek professional medical advice and act promptly when they notice unusual changes.

The initiative is being implemented through HerFidelity, Fidelity Bank’s women-focused proposition, as part of activities designed to deepen breast cancer awareness and encourage early detection.

Breast cancer may present through a lump or thickening in the breast, changes in breast size or shape, skin or nipple changes, or unusual nipple discharge. Some changes may occur without pain.

Although these symptoms do not necessarily indicate cancer, health professionals advise that unusual changes should be evaluated promptly. Early diagnosis and access to appropriate treatment can improve outcomes.

The campaign aims to move breast cancer awareness beyond symbolic expressions by promoting informed conversations, appropriate checks and timely professional evaluation.

HerFidelity supports women through access to finance, business education, capacity building, entrepreneurship support and health and wellness programmes. Through the initiative, Fidelity Bank recognises that women’s empowerment extends beyond financial inclusion to include their health, knowledge and overall wellbeing.

Under its health and wellness pillar, the bank is collaborating with Foremost Radiology to encourage women to prioritise their breast health.

A key activity is a webinar themed “Beyond the Lump: The Role of Awareness and Imaging in Early Breast Cancer Detection.” Scheduled for Friday, October 16, 2026, at 10 a.m. West African Time, the session will feature Dr Alabi, a consultant radiation and clinical oncologist.

The webinar is expected to address breast cancer awareness, possible warning signs, medical imaging and the importance of timely professional evaluation. Participants will also have an opportunity to ask questions and obtain information to support informed decisions about their health.

The campaign will extend beyond the online session, with a breast health screening and awareness outreach scheduled for October 25, 2026, at Oyingbo Market in Lagos.

The outreach is designed to bring breast health information closer to women in the commercial community, encouraging them to recognise unusual changes and seek qualified medical attention when necessary.

Guided by the message “Know, Check, Act,” the campaign seeks to promote awareness without creating unnecessary fear.

The initiative also reflects HerFidelity’s wider focus on women’s economic advancement. Its programmes include funding opportunities, business education, mentorship, capacity building and networking support for women entrepreneurs.

By combining financial inclusion with health awareness, the initiative highlights the importance of supporting women’s economic security, knowledge and wellbeing.
