The Ondo State Commissioner for Women Affairs and Social Development, Dr Seun Osamaye, has linked the state government's women-focused programmes to political support for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Osamaye made the remarks during the inauguration of Tinubu Torchbearers in Akure, where she commended Governor Lucky Orimisan Aiyedatiwa for what she described as increased visibility for women in governance and political affairs.
The event, held at The Dome, Akure, brought together APC women leaders, government officials and other stakeholders as preparations for the 2027 elections continue.
Osamaye said the opportunities and appointments given to women under the Aiyedatiwa administration demonstrated that women could play significant roles in decision-making when provided with the necessary support.
She said women in Ondo State would mobilise support for Tinubu in 2027, arguing that continued support for the President and the state government would help sustain policies and programmes targeted at women and vulnerable groups.
The commissioner urged women to participate actively in the electoral process and use their numerical strength to engage in political activities and grassroots mobilisation.
She also commended the wife of the governor, Mrs Oluwaseun Aiyedatiwa, for her support for women in the state.
The APC National Women Leader, Dr Mary Alile Idele, also commended President Tinubu for what she described as his attention to the welfare and empowerment of Nigerian women.
Idele said the inauguration of the Tinubu Torchbearers was aimed at taking the message of the administration's Renewed Hope Agenda to communities and strengthening grassroots engagement.
The initiative comes amid wider efforts by APC structures in Ondo State to mobilise women ahead of the 2027 elections. At an earlier women's empowerment and sensitisation programme in Akure, Idele announced plans to mobilise women across the country's 774 local government areas.
Governor Aiyedatiwa has also previously linked his administration's women-focused programmes to broader efforts to increase women's participation in governance. Recent state initiatives have included empowerment programmes, skills acquisition and interventions targeting women and other vulnerable groups.
At the Akure event, the Deputy Governor, Dr Olayide Adelami, and his wife, Dr Bosede Adelami, were among the dignitaries present, alongside APC women leaders from Ondo State and other parts of the country.
The inauguration further adds to the growing political mobilisation ahead of the 2027 elections, with women emerging as a major focus of party structures and campaign activities in Ondo State.
