DANGOTE GROUP CONTRACTS SAIPEM, EIL, OTHERS FOR MAJOR FERTILISER EXPANSION IN NIGERIA AND ETHIOPIA

SAIPEM SIGNING: Vice President, Oil and Gas, Dangote Industries Limited, Devakumar Edwin; President and Chief Executive of DIL, Aliko Dangote; Chief Operating Officer of Saipem’s Energy Carriers Line, Botta Fabrizio; and Managing Director of Saipem India Projects, Villa Stefano, during the signing of a partnership agreement in India on Wednesday, November 26, 2025.

Dangote Group has announced a new wave of strategic technical partnerships to drive the next phase of its fertiliser expansion in Nigeria and the development of new world-class fertiliser plants in Ethiopia. The agreements mark a major milestone in the Group’s long-term ambition to boost regional food security, scale agricultural productivity, and reinforce Africa’s presence in the global fertiliser market.

Under the new expansion plan, Dangote Group will increase its urea production capacity in Nigeria from the current 3 million metric tons to 9 million metric tons per annum. The existing facility—comprising two trains—currently produces 3 million metric tons yearly. The expansion will introduce four additional trains, enabling the Group to meet fast-rising demand across Africa and emerging international markets.

Beyond Nigeria, the Group recently held the groundbreaking ceremony for a $2.5 billion fertiliser project in Gode, Ethiopia, designed to deliver an additional 3 million metric tons of urea annually. The construction of this fully integrated facility underscores Dangote’s broader commitment to strengthening Africa’s food production systems and accelerating industrial development across the continent.

To guarantee global standards in technology, operational excellence, and reliability, Dangote Group has signed collaboration agreements with world-leading engineering and technology firms, including:

TOPSOE

Topsoe will provide ammonia technology licensing and full process design packages for six ammonia plants—four in Nigeria and two in Ethiopia. Renowned for its advanced, energy-efficient technologies, Topsoe’s solutions will underpin the plants’ operational performance and environmental sustainability.

SAIPEM

Saipem will deliver technology licensing and the complete process design package for urea melt units across all six fertiliser plants. With decades of experience in engineering and fertiliser production systems, Saipem’s expertise will support enhanced efficiency and product quality.

THYSSENKRUPP/UFT

Thyssenkrupp’s UFT division will supply the granulation technology license and design package for granulation units in all plants. This technology will enable the production of high-quality, globally competitive urea granules suited for diverse agricultural markets.

ENGINEERS INDIA LIMITED (EIL)

Engineers India Limited has been appointed project management consultant (PMC) and EPC management consultant for the four fertiliser plants under development in the Lekki Free Zone, Nigeria. EIL brings extensive experience in complex industrial engineering and major project execution.
