SAD: EX-LAGOS DEPUTY PPRO, FESTAC DPO MATILDA NGBARONYE, IS DEAD


The Divisional Police Officer (DPO) of the Festac Division, Lagos State, Chief Superintendent of Police (CSP) Matilda Umiah Ngbaronye, is dead.

CSP Ngbaronye reportedly passed away on Friday, October 24, 2025, at a private hospital in the Surulere area of Lagos. Her sudden death has thrown the Lagos State Police Command into deep mourning.

Until her demise, CSP Ngbaronye was widely regarded as one of the most vibrant and professional senior officers within the Command. Known for her discipline, commitment and strong leadership qualities, she served the Force with distinction.

She previously held the position of Deputy Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) of the Lagos State Police Command, where she earned admiration for her eloquence, transparency, and dedication to improving police-community relations.

Her passing has left colleagues, subordinates, and residents of the Festac community in deep shock as tributes continue to pour in honouring her service and legacy.

Brief Profile of CSP Matilda Umiah Ngbaronye

CSP Matilda Umiah Ngbaronye was a seasoned police officer with over 15 years of service in the Nigeria Police Force. She graduated from the University of Nigeria, Nsukka (UNN), where she obtained a degree in Mass Communication before proceeding to the Police Academy.

She began her career as a Public Relations Officer, rising through the ranks due to her professionalism, charisma and result-driven approach to policing. Her tenure as the Deputy Police Public Relations Officer, Lagos State Command, made her one of the most recognizable female officers in the state.

In 2023, she was posted as the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) of FESTAC Town, where she strengthened community engagement and enhanced crime prevention strategies. She was known for her hands-on leadership style, humility, and dedication to mentoring younger officers.

CSP Ngbaronye was also committed to humanitarian causes, particularly women empowerment and youth development.

She is survived by family members, colleagues, and loved ones who remember her as a compassionate leader and a beacon of service.
