PERNOD RICARD NIGERIA MARKS WORLD ENVIRONMENT DAY 2025 WITH BOLD SUSTAINABILITY COMMITMENTS

In celebration of World Environment Day 2025, Pernod Ricard Nigeria has reaffirmed its commitment to environmental stewardship and the circular economy through a series of bold and impactful sustainability initiatives.

Operating under the company’s global “Good Times from a Good Place” Sustainability & Responsibility roadmap, Pernod Ricard Nigeria is guided by four strategic pillars: Nurturing Terroir, Valuing People, Circular Making, and Responsible Hosting. These pillars align with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and underscore the company’s long-term commitment to a greener, more sustainable future.

This year’s World Environment Day theme, “Beat Plastic Pollution,” emphasises the urgent need to tackle plastic waste worldwide. While Pernod Ricard Nigeria predominantly uses glass packaging, the company continues to lead innovation in sustainable packaging and recycling.

A standout example of its sustainability efforts is the Jameson Upcycled Bottle Christmas Tree, first unveiled in December 2022. Made from approximately 2,500 repurposed Jameson bottles, the tree served as a powerful symbol of eco-conscious creativity and responsible consumption. The initiative also aligned with Lagos State’s environmental policies, creating awareness while promoting community involvement.

Since 2021, Pernod Ricard Nigeria has partnered with Let’s Do It Nigeria, the national coordinator of World Clean-Up Day. This ongoing collaboration has mobilised over 26,000 volunteers and led to the collection of more than 2,800 tons of waste across 28 states. Additionally, the company has supported the planting of over 6,000 trees, contributing meaningfully to Nigeria’s reforestation efforts.

Speaking on the company’s environmental vision, Michael Ehindero, Managing Director of Pernod Ricard Nigeria, said: “We eliminated single-use plastics from our operations as early as 2021 and continue to lower our environmental footprint through reusable and recyclable packaging. As part of our sustainable packaging journey, we’ve phased out single-bottle cartons for key brands including Jameson Irish Whiskey, Chivas Regal, and Imperial Blue Whisky. Our sustainability ethos is guided by five key principles: Rethink, Reduce, Reuse, Recycle, and Respect.”

These efforts form a key part of Pernod Ricard’s 2030 Sustainability & Responsibility Roadmap, with a special focus on the Circular Making pillar. Through these initiatives, the company continues to demonstrate leadership in sustainable business practices and environmental responsibility.
